An American architecture professor, Ginger Krieg Dosier, 32, Assistant Professor of Architecture at American University of Sharjah (AUS) in Abu Dhabi, has won this year’s prestigious Metropolis Next Generation Design Prize for “Biomanufactured Brick.” The 2010 Next Generation Prize Challenge was “One Design Fix for the Future” - a small fix to change the world. The Next Generation judges decided that Professor Dosier’s well-documented and -tested plan to replace clay-fired brick with a brick made with bacteria and sand, met the challenge perfectly.

Monday Morning Meeting

Last week we worked on a few different things:

1) Business Travel: Where do you stay? How do you get around where you’re going? What role do carbon offsets play in green business travel? How can you travel via teleconferencing? (see archive for details)

2) Goods Transportation: Electric delivery trucks. Kite-powered ocean freighters. Warren Buffett’s new green trains. Ebay boxes with lifecycle tracking ability. (see archive for details)

This week, let’s put the microscope on energy conservation. Let’s see if we can find enough quality material to last all week on this subject.

Also this week, I’m starting a new daily post. Every day, I’ll shine a spotlight on a particular company’s corporate responsibility efforts. My thinking is that many companies are making at least a small effort to act more responsibly towards their employees, their communities and the environment, and I’d like to find out what those efforts entail.

And of course, as always, come back often and please feel free to submit, suggest, and share your ideas with me anytime.

Now, let’s get to work!
